Message from our Chair,
Gary Shea
Well, shoot.
You have probably heard that the Southfield City Clerk election featured a Trumper (the only name on the ballot) and two write-in candidates—one of them being our friend Wynett Guy. The bad news is that the Trumper won—he got less than 51% of the vote.
The good news is that Wynett ran a solid campaign with too little time and money, but with the support of Democrats from all over Oakland County and the state, including some from our club who canvassed, dropped lit, texted and called voters. Wynett’s campaign generated a lot of energy and enthusiasm. We’ll need all of that and more for 2026.
Despite the disappointing start to the month, November looks to be a good month for us.
● The Michigan Democratic Party opened a field office in Detroit on November 5—the first one in years.
● Monday, November 10 is the DSOC Blood drive at the OP Community Center. There are donations times available—sign up at redcrossblood.org.
● Wednesday, November 13 the DSOC Book Club meets to discuss Michael Lewis’ “Who Is Government?” It’s a cheerful, optimistic book. If you want to join us, drop an email to demsofsoc@gmail.com.
● The November 15 Oakland County Dems Phil Hart dinner is SOLD OUT! Lots of interest in hearing Jasmine Crockett speak.
● Our November 20 meeting (at the Sheet Metal Workers Hall) will feature Mark Totten, AG candidate; Natalie Price, who will give us her full State Senate campaign pitch; and Lisa Brown, Oakland County Clerk, who will talk about Rank Mi Vote.
● On December 11, we will hold our annual holiday party at the Gillham Recreation Center in Huntington Woods.
Finally, we want to thank Roz Schindler for her long service as DSOC Secretary. She is retiring from the position. We hope, and expect, that we’ll see her often at club activities. Thanks, Roz!

DSOC merch. PLEASE NOTE THAT OUR STORE IS CURRENTLY OFFLINE WHILE WE ARE LOOKING FOR A NEW VENDOR. STAY TUNED. Hoodies, sweatshirts, T-shirts, totes and hats will be available in our store when we are back online. Since we do not require payment of dues to join our club, the sale of our merchandise is one of our primary fundraising tools. Wearing DSOC merch not only shows you are a proud Democrat; it also promotes our club. These items also make great gifts!
Onward!
Gary
