Message from our Chair,
Gary Shea
Our April 17th meeting at the Sheet Metal Workers hall and on Zoom should be a good one.
We’ll have another postcard effort--this one going to Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald in support of cash bail reform. We should have a speaker on the topic as well.
We are in the process of designing a bookmark to be used as a takeaway at events in which we participate. A bookmark will be kept and used after the event, so it should be a useful promotional tool. To that end, we need your suggestions for an inspirational quote about books and reading for one side of the bookmark and a “who we are” statement for the other side. Both sides will include our logo and club info. Send your suggestions to demsofsoc@gmail.com. We’ll look at some of them at the meeting.
Over the next few months, we’ll be sponsoring/participating in the Berkley Pride event, the Juneteenth celebration in Oak Park, a Red Cross blood drive, a Forgotten Harvest event and an art show (“Resistance Works”) at Articipate Gallery in Berkley in July and August.
Marv Zalman has the new book club up and running. If you want to participate, let Marv know at aa1887@wayne.edu.
Finally, lots of us joined in the Hands Off event on April 5--it was great to see thousands of good people out together! Click on the button at the top of this page to go to our Take Action page for more Resistance events.
DSOC merch. Hoodies, sweatshirts, T-shirts, totes and hats are available in our online Store. Since we do not require payment of dues to join our club, the sale of our merchandise is one of our primary fundraising tools. Wearing DSOC merch not only shows you are a proud Democrat; it also promotes our club. These items also make great gifts!
