Message from our Chair,
Gary Shea

We will be working on a couple of important grassroots projects over the next few months. The Royal Oak Area Dems are organizing a Youth Summit on March 21 and we and some of the other local clubs are helping with the effort. We can identify all the Dem voters in our area who are under 30 and we will be recruiting them.

Can you invite one person under 30 to the Summit or to join our club or come to a meeting? A flyer with details about the Summit is posted on this page.

We will also be recruiting Precinct Delegates (PDs) for the 2026 elections. We will need to fill some vacant spots in our area, and we will be meeting up with PDs for training and projects over the next few months. Ideally, a PD works close to home, connecting with Dems in their own neighborhood and acting as a resource, helping folks register to vote or sign onto the Absentee Voter list.

Have you thought about becoming a PD yourself? Or can you suggest someone who might be a good candidate? You can find the PD Affidavit of Identity and instructions needed to get on the ballot here. We’ll talk more the role of the PD at the February meeting.

I am happy that this month—I hope often in the future—we will meet at the Huntington Woods Rec Center. It’s closer to home for most of us. Also, the Oak Park Community Center has been too expensive for us to use, but I hear that they may make it more affordable. The Sheet Metal Workers have been good to us over the years, but I think being closer to home and in our own club area the better choice.

Finally, have you noticed that even Republicans in Congress are getting worried about seeing so many people at ICE protests? Our voices count! Let’s keep it up!

DSOC merch. PLEASE NOTE THAT OUR STORE IS CURRENTLY OFFLINE WHILE WE ARE LOOKING FOR A NEW VENDOR. STAY TUNED. Hoodies, sweatshirts, T-shirts, totes and hats will be available in our store when we are back online. Since we do not require payment of dues to join our club, the sale of our merchandise is one of our primary fundraising tools. Wearing DSOC merch not only shows you are a proud Democrat; it also promotes our club. These items also make great gifts!

Please note, it happens occasionally that someone sends a “spoofing” email—one that appears to have come from me, but I didn't write. If it looks suspicious, it probably is. I will NEVER ask you to send me money or your credit card. Be vigilant!
