July Club Meeting

Our July meeting will focus on local elections. We had record turnouts in the 2020 presidential election in all three of our cities. The turnouts in the 2019 local elections were much lower. We want to encourage all residents of our cities to get informed and involved in their local elections, and to help with that we have invited all the candidates to speak at our July meeting. We’ve asked them to address why they are running for office and to explain their platform.

In Huntington Woods, there are two incumbents running for re-election, Joe Rozell and Jules Olsman. At this point, they are running unopposed. However, the filing deadline is July 20, therefore, there is the possibility that the race will be contested.

There is no election in Royal Oak Township.

In Oak Park, there is one incumbent running for re-election, Mayor Pro Tem Carolyn Burns. Shaun Whitehead was appointed to City Council to replace Regina Weiss when she won her election for State House Representative of the 27th District, and he is running to stay in his City Council seat. They are both running unopposed. The Mayoral race in Oak Park has Crystal Bailey running against incumbent Mayor Marian McClellan. They will both be speaking at our July 15 meeting.

We hope you will join us for this informative event.
